Siemens MTSS PEB 2046 Memory Time Switch Small User Guide and Manual
Summary
The MTSS PEB 2046 is a specialized, low-power CMOS time/space switch designed for high-capacity PCM communication systems. It efficiently connects up to 256 input channels to outputs using an integrated Speech Memory (SM) and Connection Memory (CM). This manual provides detailed technical coverage of the device's architecture, including its configurable timing controls, data management protocols, and operational flow. Ideal for electronics engineers and system architects building advanced communication equipment that requires reliable, high-density PCM channel switching while maintaining low power consumption.

Memory Time Switch Small (MTSS) PEB 2046
General Description
Type Package
The MTSS PEB 2046 is a monolithic CMOS device which has
PEB 2046-N P-LCC-44-1 (SMD)
the ability to connect any of the 256 PCM channels of eight
incoming PCM lines to any of the 256 PCM channels of eight PEB 2046-P P-DIP-40-1
output lines. The input information of a complete frame is stored in the Features speech memory SM. The incoming 256 channels
Time/space switch for 2.048-kbit/s PCM systems
of 8 bits each are written in sequence into fixed positions in
Switching of up to 256 incoming PCM channels to up to
the SM. This is controlled by the input counter in the timing
256 outgoing PCM channels
control block with an 8-k Hz repetition rate.
Eight input and eight output PCM lines
For output, the connection memory (CM) is read in sequence.
Configurable for a 4096- and 8192-k Hz device clock
Each location in CM points to a location in the speech
Tristate function for further expansion and tandem
memory. The byte in this speech memory location is read into
operation
the current output time-slot. The read access of the CM is
8-bit µP-interface
controlled by the output counter which also resides in the
Single +5-V power supply
timing control block.
Advanced low power CMOS technology
Thus the CM needs to be programmed beforehand for the T0 IN desired connection. The CM address corresponds to one particular output time-slot and line number. The contents of

this CM-address point to a particular input time-slot and line number (now resident in the SM).
