Near edge thermal printhead A thermal printhead is sometimes required to print on a flat plane without bending the print medium. For this re- quirement, other companies offer various types of ther- mal printheads including end face thermal printhead. ROHM offers a near edge thermal printheads for this re- quirement. Our near edge thermal printhead, as shown in Fig. 3, in- corporates a heating element at the end of the heating element circuit board and utilizes the curvature of its glazed structure to enable the straight passing of the printing medium. Conventional types (perfect end face and corner types) place heating elements vertical or in- clined to the normal electrode plane (driver IC mounting surface). This required a production process that is usu- ally costly and not productive. However, our near edge thermal printhead is productive, because it is produced using a production method almost the same as flat ther- mal printheads.
