HTC LM339 Quad Voltage Comparator Manual
Summary
The LM339 Quarter Voltage Comparator is a robust integrated circuit featuring four independent comparators engineered for wide voltage range operation from single power supplies (2V to 36V DC). This manual provides comprehensive technical documentation detailing the performance characteristics, electrical specifications, and application usage. It is ideal for engineers requiring low-power, high-precision comparison circuits that can directly interface with TTL or CMOS logic, even when operating across varied voltage systems like A/D converters or clock generators.

DESCRIPTION The LM339 consists of four independent precision voltage comparators, with an offset voltage specification as low as 20㎷ max for each comparator, which were designed specifically to operate from a single power supply over a wide range of voltages. Operation from split power supplies is also possible and the low power supply current drain is independent of the magnitude of the power supply voltage. These comparators also have a unique characteristic in that the input common-mode voltage range includes ground, even though they are operated from a single power supply voltage. The LM339 series was designed to directly interface with TTL and CMOS. When operated from both plus and minus power supplies, the LM339 series will directly interface with MOS logic where their low power drain is a distinct advantage over standard comparators.

Frequently Asked Questions
What voltage ranges can the LM339 operate on?
It supports operation from a single power supply across a wide range of 2.0V to 36V DC, or using split supplies between ±1.0V and ±18V DC.
Does it work with different logic standards (TTL, CMOS)?
Yes, the LM339 is designed to directly interface with TTL and CMOS logic systems, and also functions well with MOS when run from both positive and negative power supplies.
Can I use ground as a common-mode reference voltage?
Yes, one of its unique characteristics is that the input common-mode voltage range includes ground, even when operating from a single power supply voltage.
