Dell EMC PowerEdge R250 Statement of Volatility
Summary
Statement of volatility for the Dell EMC PowerEdge R250 entry-level rack server, documenting all volatile and non-volatile memory components. Non-volatile items include 256-byte PCH CMOS, 32MB BIOS SPI Flash (U6), 4MB BIOS Data Flash (U3), 4MB iDRAC SPI Flash (U7), 8GB BMC EMMC (U21), 448KB System CPLD, and H755/H755N PERC controller with 8GB SDRAM, 512Gb NV Flash, 128Mb SPI Flash, and 128KB NVSRAM. Volatile system memory supports up to 4 DIMMs at 32GB each per CPU.

Statement of Volatility – Dell EMC Power Edge R250 Dell EMC Power Edge R250 contains both volatile and non-volatile (NV) components. Volatile components lose their data immediately upon removal of power from the component. Non-volatile components continue to retain their data even after the power has been removed from the component. Components chosen as user- definable configuration options (those not soldered to the motherboard) are not included in the Statement of Volatility. Configuration option information (pertinent to options such as microprocessors, remote access controllers, and storage controllers) is available by component separately. The following NV components are present in the Power Edge R250 server.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between volatile and non-volatile storage in this server?
Volatile components lose data immediately when power is removed, while Non-volatile (NV) components retain data.
Which onboard components are listed as NV or Volatile?
The system includes NV components like BIOS SPI Flash, iDRAC SPI Flash, and BMC EMMC, alongside volatile memory like System Memory and iDRAC DDR4 RAM.
Can a user manually clear the data in certain flash memories?
SPI Flash allows manual clearing via firmware update; however, highly protected areas like lOM or PSU memory cannot be cleared by the user.
