National Semiconductor DM5445 DM7445 Data Handbook
Summary
These BCD to Decimal Decoders/Drivers are essential integrated circuits designed for converting Binary Coded Decimal inputs into clear, reliable multiple logic outputs. Featuring high-performance NPN output transistors, they function effectively as indicator or relay drivers, ensuring full decoding even with invalid input conditions. This manual provides comprehensive technical details for engineers, including detailed connection diagrams, electrical specifications (voltage/current ratings), and operating procedures necessary for integrating this chip into robust digital control systems.

DM5445/DM7445 BCD to Decimal Decoders/Drivers General Description Features
These BCD-to-decimal decoders/drivers consist of eight in- Full decoding of input logic
verters and ten, four-input NAND gates. The inverters are m A sink-current capability connected in pairs to make BCD input data available for All outputs are off for invalid BCD input conditions decoding by the NAND gates. Full decoding of BCD input logic ensures that all outputs remain off for all invalid (10–15) binary input conditions. These decoders feature high-performance, NPN output transistors designed for use as indicator/relay drivers, or as open-collector logic-circuit drivers. The high-breakdown output transistors are compati- ble for interfacing with most MOS integrated circuits.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the different package types available for this decoder?
The device is available in three main packages: J16A (Ceramic Dual-In-Line), N16E (Molded Dual-In-Line), and W16A (Ceramic Flat).
What is the recommended operating temperature range for DM5445 vs. DM7445?
DM5445 has an operating range of 0 to 125°C, while DM7445's range is 0 to 70°C.
What capability does the output provide for interfacing with logic circuits?
The outputs are high-performance NPN transistors suitable for use as indicator/relay drivers or open-collector logic-circuit drivers, compatible with most MOS integrated circuits.
How is invalid BCD input handled by the decoder?
The design ensures that all outputs remain off for any invalid binary input conditions due to full decoding provided by NAND gates.
