Dell EMC PowerEdge XE2420 Technical Specifications
Summary
This Statement of Volatility details volatile and non-volatile memory components in the Dell EMC PowerEdge XE2420 server. It catalogs NV components including BIOS SPI flash, iDRAC SPI flash, BMC EMMC, TPM module, LOM NVRAM, and power supply microcontrollers, plus volatile system memory DIMMs. Serves as a security reference for IT administrators and security professionals managing data retention and component disposal compliance.

Statement of Volatility – Dell EMC Power Edge XE2420 Dell EMC Power Edge XE2420 contains both volatile and non-volatile (NV) components. Volatile components lose their data immediately upon removal of power from the component. Non-volatile components continue to retain their data even after the power has been removed from the component. Components chosen as user-definable configuration options (those not soldered to the motherboard) are not included in the Statement of Volatility. Configuration option information (pertinent to options such as microprocessors, remote access controllers, and storage controllers) is available by component separately. The following NV components are present in the Power Edge XE2420 server.

Frequently Asked Questions
What components lose data when power is removed?
Volatile components lose their data immediately upon removal of power, such as System CPLD RAM and System Memory (RAM).
Which system areas can users write programs or OS data to during normal operation?
Users can write data to BIOS SPI Flash, System Memory (RAM), Internal USB Key Flash, Trusted Platform Module EEPROM, and System OS RAM.
Can the user clear the iDRAC's Uboot/BMC EMMC contents if necessary?
The text does not specify a method for a user to manually or programmatically clear the iDRAC Uboot (BMC EMMC) content.
What type of flash memory is used for BIOS recovery and what is its size?
BIOS Recovery SPI Flash is non-volatile, 16MB in size, and serves as an aid to reprogram the primary ROM.
