Expanded Operating Temperature Range Range—Information Update - Dell Owners' Manual
Summary
Dell PowerEdge Expanded Operating Temperature Range Information Update for R710, R610, and T610 servers. This technical document defines expanded temperature operating ranges including continuous operation (10-35 degrees C), 10% annual operating hours (5-40 degrees C), and 1% annual operating hours (-5 to 45 degrees C). It specifies hardware restrictions such as CPU TDP limits, redundant power supply requirements, fan configurations, and hard drive compatibility limitations for expanded temperature operation. Target users are data center engineers and system administrators deploying Dell PowerEdge servers in challenging thermal environments.

Expanded Operating Temperature Range—Information Update Technical Specifications NOTE: Dell now supports expanded operating temperature ranges for Power Edge R710, R610, and T610, subject to expanded temperature ranges and hardware restrictions detailed below. Environmental Operating Temperature Continuous 10 °C to 35 °C at 10% to 80% relative humidity (RH), operation with °C dew point.
De-rate maximum allowable dry bulb temperature by °C/300 meters above 900 meters (1 °F per 550 feet).
Expanded Operating Temperature Range
10% of annual 5 °C to 40 °C, 5% to 85% RH with 26 °C dew point. operating hours
For temperatures between 35 °C and 40 °C, de-rate maximum allowable dry bulb temperature by 1 °C/175 meters above meters (1 °F per 319 feet).
1% of annual –5 °C to 45 °C, 5% to 90% RH with 26 °C dew point. operating hours
For temperatures between 40 °C and 45 °C, de-rate maximum allowable dry bulb temperature by 1 °C/125 meters above meters (1 °F per 228 feet).
NOTE: When operating in the expanded temperature range, ambient temperature warnings may be reported on the LCD and in the System Event Log. NOTE: Do not perform a cold startup below 5 °C. NOTE: The operating temperature specified is for a maximum altitude of 3,050 meters (10,000 feet).
